Mother's Day

Sunday, 10 May 2026

Mother's Day is celebrated in Belgium on the second Sunday of May, a tradition adopted from the American holiday officially recognised in 1914. The celebration has roots in older European traditions of honouring mothers, including the English Mothering Sunday. Its purpose is to thank mothers for their care and dedication.

On Mother's Day, children make handmade cards or gifts, and families share a meal or go out for lunch. Flowers — especially tulips and roses — are a popular present. Many children prepare breakfast in bed for their mother as a surprise.
